One of the most frequent questions I get asked is – so you work in Fashion, what’s the latest trend? What should I be buying?? With that in mind I thought I would do a mini trend break down for those people a bit unsure on what to buy now and I’ve tried to pick out the trends that will be staying around for a while so you will be sorted for SS19 too!
Mint, pistachio, sage… Call it what you will, shades of green are trending. It dominated the runway and has filtered into celebs and bloggers wardrobes worldwide – you will definitely be seeing a lot of this colour through into the summer months including (brace yourself) Neon. Yep lime neon green is actually making a comeback, I remember last wearing this at a school disco at primary school back in the 90’s so I might be sticking to more of the sage green for now until I’m brave enough to venture back into neon!
You can treat the easier shades of green like neutrals, it’s actually pretty easy to blend with other colours and will go with most of the items already in your wardrobe. Here I’m wearing a sage green cord oversized shirt from Zara with Isabel Marant jeans and a classic white T shirt with some gold jewellery and Balenciaga trainers.
Yep the 80’s are back. There’s actually a lot from this fashion era to be thankful for, I personally have always loved the big shoulders, statement sleeves, oversized blazers not to mention the jewellery and belts! 80’s fashion hits are as current now as they were then and some of the most influential designers like Saint Laurent have been referencing them in collections so be prepared for all the high street versions coming your way.
Following on from the 80’s talk above, statement earrings and oversized accessories in general are becoming the it pieces to buy. There will still be some mini bags around but generally the rule is the bigger the better for your beach bags, headbands, sunglasses and jewellery this SS.
Tie dye Tie Dye is making its comeback – think less Hippy gap year and more Proenza Schouler vibes for this one! Pair dresses with sandals and T-shirts/oversized shirts with faded denim and white accessories to modernise this print.
The utility style boiler suit is definitely something to add to your wardrobe for next season, it was featured in most runway collections and every high street store is carrying a version. Topshop’s denim boiler suit has already sold out and been re-released so be quick if you’re after one of those! I’m wearing this denim jumpsuit here from Pretty Little Thing, absolutely love wearing this now with silver heels but will equally be great in Summer with sandals.
This tonal trend which was spotted last Summer is back again, this time in a softer palette of oatmeal, biscuit, nudey browns and off-white so basically head to toe ‘Beige’ is no longer boring it’s now chic! Once a colour that was only worn by OAP’s is now (if done in the right way) fab for Summer days, try mixing with a pop of red or crisp white accessories if head to toe is a bit much for you.
This is the detail you’ll see swishing from every hem, sleeve, bag, shoe and even necklace. My absolute favourite designer that featured this trend is Jacquemus – I will be copying the fringe skirts styled with wrap shirts a la Kourtney Kardashian for sure this Summer!
They made an appearance last Summer and back again with a vengeance, midi dresses are taking on slightly more of a romantic, prairie look this season. Not just for tall girls either – look to bloggers such as Monikh Dale for inspo on how shorter girls (like me) can pull off this look too!
Super cool jewellery brand Alighieri has the most sought after gold and pearl earrings and Shrimps brought the pearl hair slide on to the radar and made it a complete sell out piece – pearls are definitely having a moment!
